Things get started with registration opening at 8 a.m., a Pre-Camp “How-To Social Media Clinic” at 8:30 a.m., and the welcome and keynote at 9 a.m.

Keynote speaker Paul Meyer kicks it off with a his presentation on “Mobile Health: Lessons from Around the World.” Paul is Co-Founder, Chairman, and President of Voxiva. Before co-founding Voxiva, Paul Meyer was Founder and Chairman of IPKO, the first and largest Internet service provider in Kosovo. Started in the weeks after the 1999 war, IPKO was hailed by the U.N. Secretary General as “a model for future humanitarian emergencies.” He was recently named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and MIT’s Technology Review Magazine named him one of 100 technology pioneers and their 2003 Humanitarian of the Year.

Our afternoon keynote speaker is Dr. Jim Jirjis, presenting on “When the Provider Takes Action: How a Powerful Web Portal Can Empower and Support Patients and their Doctors.” He is the Chief Medical Information Officer, Assistant Chief Medical Officer, Director of Adult Primary Care, and Professor of Biomedical Informatics at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Dr. Jirjis is the chairman and developer of the MyHealthAtVanderbilt Patient Web Portal and will be sharing with us about provider-tethered web portals as an example of technology empowering the patient and supporting the doctor-patient relationship.

We’ve also got nine great panelists and more than 20 presentations to choose from. Click here to view the updated schedule.

The date and venue for HealthCampNash has been changed to May 30th at Lipscomb University’s College of Pharmacy. We are very excited about holding the event at Lipscomb. This space will allow for more attendees, more breakout rooms, bettter technology, and well, you get the idea.

Lipscomb is well known in the Nashville area. Located in Green Hills, it easily accessible to most in Nashville and offers a wide variety of food options (Green Hills mall is < 10 minutes away).

The College of Pharmacy is one of Lipscomb’s newest programs, and its building has recently been remodled. The class rooms feature comfortable seating, whiteboards, and projection systems. The auditorium can hold 900 people, and their new “flex space” features round tables that are perfect for collaboration.

Needless to say, we’re just a little excited about the space! You won’t want to miss the event, so be sure to register today!

Google Maps: Lipscomb University

We’re proud to announce that registration for HealthCampNash 2009 is officially open! Don’t forget that the event is 100% Free! You might be wondering “Why register if it’s free? Can’t I just show up?” Well, yes, you can, but registering would help us both out.

Advantages for Registering:

We get a better estimate of how many people are coming, and can plan accordingly (Food, t-shirts, etc)

You’ll get a t-shirt! While we’d like to be able to give t-shirts to everyone that attends, we do have to know how many to order. We’ll give t-shirts to those who registered first. If we have shirts left-over, we’ll give them out to non-registered attendees on a first-come, first-serve basis.

You’ll be the first to know about any updates, changes, specials, etc regarding the event.

Our registration list will be published, so you’ll be able to collaborate with others before, during, and after the event!

Don’t forget to join our groups on Facebook and LinkedIn also! You can even follow us on Twitter. We’ll follow you back, I promise.

While a traditional BarCamp is completely “fluid” in its schedule, we are organizing HealthCampNash a bit differently. The majority of the event’s schedule will still be determined by the attendees; however, we are offerring a couple keynote presentations and some pre-determined panelists that we feel would have a good bit to share with the rest of us.

However, all of this was no more than a subject of conversation and an item on the “To-Do” list until this yesterday. Dr. Jim Jirjis and Sue Muse of Vanderbilt University Medical Center have both agreed to share their knowledge at HealthCampNash! We could not be more excited about this terrific news.

Both Dr. Jirjis and Sue have been heavily involved in developing the MyHealthAtVanderbilt website. The website serves as a communication portal between patients and physicians, allowing messages, medical records, and other information to be sent back and forth between both parties. In other words, it is a major medical center’s application of Health 2.0.

A big thanks goes out to both of them for their willingness to participate in this event. We’ll keep you posted as more exciting news comes in!

HealthCamp, a spinoff of BarCamp, was started in 2006 to discuss how Web 2.0 technologies can revolutionize the healthcare industry. Since then, these un-conferences, or “camps”, have been springing up all over the country. San Francisco, Maryland, DC, New York, and even the UK. When we first heard about these camps, our initial thought was “Let’s go to the one in Nashville!” We were soon shocked to find out that, well, there wasn’t one in Nashville.

So we stepped in, and one lunch at Panera later, HealthCampNash was born! Nashville is a perfect location for such an event. With presences like HCA, Vanderbilt, AmSurg, and more, Nashville has been a giant in the healthcare arena for quite some time. The city is also quickly becoming one of the nation’s premier hubs for social media. Dave Delaney and Marcus Whitney brought BarCamp to Nashville two years ago with tremendous success, and the city is the birthplace of the Geek Breakfast. With such a strong influence of healthcare and social media, we feel like Nashville is the perfect place to bring the two worlds together!

Oh, and did I mention it’s free? Yeah, free! So why not come? You won’t want to miss it, so be sure to register today. Seriously… right now. Here’s a link.
